William S. Harlan completed a B.S. in geophysics at
Texas A&M University
in 1981 under an
SEG
scholarship, and
worked periodically as a seismic interpreter for
Conoco.
He received an M.S. and Ph.D in geophysics
from
Stanford University
in 1984 and 1986 while a member of the
Stanford Exploration Project.
He investigated inversion topics at
the Institut Français du Pétrole
in 1984. During 1986 and 1987,
he taught geophysical signal processing at
 Tsinghua University
and worked with researchers at the
Geophysical Research Institute in China.
During 1988 and 1989 he developed processing software
for the EEC at the
Osservatorio Geofisico Sperimentale
in
Trieste,
Italy.
From 1989 to 1996, Bill was a researcher with
Conoco
in Ponca City, Oklahoma,
in the Theoretical Geophysics and Seismic Processing Development groups.

In 1996,
Bill joined the Landmark Graphics
Denver office (formerly Advance Geophysical)
to develop new seismic processing
and interpretation software. He was a longtime member of the
SEG
and a
